This course will develop students' appreciation of dance as an art form. Students will learn dance vocabulary words, different forms of dance styles, issues in dance, and the history pertaining to the world of dance. Students will develop kinesthetic awareness, movement memory, creative abilities, and aesthetic appreciation of various dance forms. The enhancement, development, and maintenance of physical fitness, self-confidence, self-discipline, and independence with the body are the goals expected to be achieved. Each student should leave this class having been encouraged, esteemed, and take with them a new appreciation of dance. Students will become acquainted with basic techniques of Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop, Folk, and Social Dances.
